9/12/2018 - LOPA Meeting

This Wednesday, we met with representatives from LOPA. LOPA stands for Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency. This company works to acquire organs from donors and gets these organs to those who need them free of charge. Through our meeting, we learned much of the process of acquiring these organs and distribution. According to the representatives, LOPA has a number they use that estimates the number of lives that can be saved from a full donation from a single person. This includes heart, two pieces of liver, small intestine, two lungs, two kidneys, eyes, and pancreas.

The representatives proposed a project to us. They stated that they would like help in hosting a LOPA charity event at a church. The event will be a celebration of the lives saved by donors. Those invited will be family of past donors. This event will take place on November 10th at the First United Methodist Church. While this does take place at a methodist church, it will be an interdenominational event, allowing for people of any religion to attend the event. What the representatives asked for was sign in sheets, promotional material, and decorative materials for the event that relate to the organization's purpose and can fit into a fall theme. We were given a date to have our materials ready. They asked that we have it complete by October 1st. By consistently working and dividing up the work evenly between each of our team members, we should have the project done in time and completed with quality graphics and products.
